The white shark, often referred to as the great white, is known for its intelligence, power, and curiosity. It is a solitary predator that primarily feeds on marine mammals, fish, and seabirds. They are capable of powerful bursts of speed and can leap out of the water while hunting.

White sharks are ovoviviparous, meaning embryos develop inside eggs that are then hatched within the mother. Little is known about their breeding habits, as mating and birthing are rarely observed. Pups are born large and fully independent.

Recognized for their large size, robust body, and white underbelly, great whites are one of the most iconic shark species. They can grow up to 20 feet in length and weigh over 2,000 kilograms. Their powerful jaws are equipped with rows of sharp, triangular teeth.

The white shark has been a subject of fascination and fear throughout human history, often misrepresented as a mindless killer in media and folklore. However, research has revealed their critical role in marine ecosystems as apex predators.

Classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN, white sharks face threats from targeted shark control programs, accidental catches in fishing gear, and trophy hunting. Conservation efforts include protective legislation, monitoring populations, and public education to reduce human-shark conflicts.
