Male crickets attract females by chirping, and after mating, females lay their eggs in the soil, where they hatch into nymphs. The nymphs resemble adults but lack wings and undergo several molts before reaching adulthood.

Crickets have long antennae, strong hind legs for jumping, and short forewings used for sound production. They are often distinguished by their chirping, produced by rubbing their wings (tegmina) together in a process called stridulation.

Crickets have been part of human culture for centuries, often symbolizing good luck or fortune in various cultures. In addition to their ecological role as decomposers, crickets are also used as food in some cultures and are a popular pet in others, especially in East Asia.

Crickets are not considered endangered and are found in various habitats around the world. However, certain species, especially those with specialized habitat requirements, may face threats from habitat destruction and climate change.
