Aptenodytes patagonicus

King Penguins are notable for their majestic presence and social behavior, forming large colonies for breeding and molting. They are exceptional divers, able to dive to depths of over 300 meters in search of fish and squid.

Their breeding cycle is unique, taking over a year to complete, which means they can breed only every second year. Eggs are laid on the bare ground or on small mounds of stones and incubated on the parents' feet under a flap of skin.
