Pogona Vitticeps

Bearded dragons are territorial and exhibit a range of behaviors for communication and dominance, such as head bobbing and arm waving. They are semi-arboreal, often found basking on elevated surfaces, and go through a hibernation-like state called brumation in cooler temperatures.

During mating season in spring and summer, males perform a courtship display of head bobbing and arm waving. Females can lay multiple clutches of eggs, from 11 to 30 eggs per clutch, potentially laying several clutches from a single mating.

These lizards are known for their ability to change colors for camouflage and have a diet that includes insects, flowers, and leaves. They are also capable of perceiving optical illusions, a rare trait in reptiles.

Originating from various arid to subtropical environments across Australia, bearded dragons are popular in captivity and have been bred into various morphs for pet trade.

Bearded dragons face habitat threats from land clearance and the pet trade, but their overall conservation status is of Least Concern. They are protected in some Australian preserves, ensuring their survival in the wild.
