Black & White Ruffed Lemurs are highly social animals, often found in small family groups. They are primarily arboreal, spending most of their time in the treetops, and are known for their agility and speed in the forest canopy. They are also one of the few lemur species that are more active during the day.

Mating season for Black & White Ruffed Lemurs occurs during Madagascar's rainy season. After a gestation period of about 102 days, females give birth to 2-3 offspring. The infants are initially carried by the mother until they can move independently.

These lemurs have distinctive black and white fur patterns, with their thick, ruffed fur around the neck giving them a lion-like appearance. They are relatively large, weighing between 3.5 to 4.5 kilograms (7.7 to 9.9 pounds), and are known for their strong sense of smell and sharp hearing.

Native to the rainforests of Madagascar, Black & White Ruffed Lemurs have a limited range and have been historically under threat from habitat loss due to deforestation. They are important seed dispersers within their ecosystem, helping to maintain the health of the forest.

Black & White Ruffed Lemurs are classified as "Critically Endangered" by the IUCN Red List, with only a few thousand individuals remaining in the wild. Conservation efforts focus on habitat restoration, anti-poaching measures, and research to protect these unique and vital members of Madagascar’s biodiversity.
