Rhinoceroses are typically solitary animals, except for mothers with offspring or mating pairs. They are known for their territorial behavior and can be aggressive if provoked. Despite their formidable appearance, they are herbivores and primarily graze on vegetation.

Rhinoceroses are distinguishable by their thick skin, which is covered with folds and creases, and their horns, which are made of keratin (the same material as human fingernails). The number of horns varies by species, with some having one horn (like the Indian and Javan rhinos) and others having two (like the African species).

Rhinoceroses have been around for millions of years and have historically been depicted in ancient art and mythology. They have faced significant threats from poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict, leading to declines in their populations.

Several rhinoceros species are critically endangered, primarily due to poaching for their horns, which are highly valued in traditional medicine and as status symbols. Conservation efforts, including anti-poaching measures and habitat protection, are crucial to the survival of these iconic animals.
